Today is a land practice day. I had several heavy meals throughout the day, not really sparing my body much recovery time between meals, I just ate and ate in hopes of providing my body with enough energy by the time practice rolled around. The plan backfired. Hard.
All throughout practice, I could feel the undigested foods rolling back and forth in my stomach as if punishing me for eating them so ungratefully. GAH. I felt like I was on the VOMITTTT COMETTTTT. One word adequately summarizes how I felt: crap.
Upon arrival of home, the dish of stir-fried pork and sugar snap peas I was looking forward to eating all day suddenly lost all appeal. Horrible. I asked my body what it wanted, and it responded with a weak, "leafy greens..." Leafy greens... I thought about that for a moment. "What the eff, what kind of veggies do I have in my fridge?" Carrots, green beans, SPINACH. BYAH! If there was a spinach celebratory dance, I probably would've busted a move or two over the excitement, haha. Upon this realization, I scoured the kitchen for ingredients: dried shiitake, kombu, soy sauce, tofu, scallops, frozen chicken stock, and ginger. Wow, GINGER. What a freaking savior. It's one of those ingredients that just completely changes your mood and appetite. An important ingredient that I've overlooked and haven't used for the past two weeks or so. I mean, how could I? It's one of the fundamental pillars of flavor upon which Chinese cuisine is based on. How could I overlook this unassuming little gem? So, I went ahead and threw all these ingredients together and cooked up a pretty appetizing stock.
From now on, spicy ginger, you and I will be inseparable, just like Romeo and Juliet or Cleopatra and Alexander the Gre... wtf, I'm totally digressing here. But, yes, GINGER, AMAZING! You should try it today! It'll make you feel infinitely better!
Oh right, almost forgot the picture:
