As an excuse to throw out my half-functional cheapo earphones, I bought these last week on Amazon for about $30. Some background info, I've owned several in-ear earphones before, including the older version of the 75's, the MDR-EX71's. Albeit having thrown those out several years ago, I still distinctly remember the clear definition those earphones offered. If I recall correctly, the 71's were a bit bass-heavy, with a good balance of trebles/highs.
I thought, well, the 75's are just a step-up from the 71's, how much better could they be... Structurally, they are very similar, with thing, rubbery wires that could easily wear down if not taken proper care of. Sonically, however, the 75's are definitely a step up from the older 71's. Sony must have tweaked the drivers or modified their magnets to produce a much more balanced sound as the bass has definitely been turned down a notch; music coming from these earphones feels alive and when listening to a good recording, you feel like you're actually listening to the artist live.
Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this purchase. I was looking for nothing but a cheap pair of replacement phones, but got caught up in the quality department as well. Well, these things are definitely a good bang-for-your-buck. I'm a tad concerned about the cable (same problem with the 71's I had previously), but have been carrying them with the provided case and don't see them wearing away anytime soon. They even function as earplugs!
